Welcome to Freon

NOTICE: Freon is still well under heavy development and can be slow to progress!

Freon OS is a lightweight GNU/Linux micro-distribution, designed to run on most popular virtual machines. Freon is great for personal or business based VM handling and is included with the essentials to make it functional in any use case; especially well for a user learning the ins-and-outs of a simple GNU/linux distribution. Based on BusyBox, and shipped with GNU C library, CHTTPD, dropbear, grub-legacy, and more.

The goal is to keep Freon OS as small and reliable as possible. With that being said, unfortunately Freon does not support UEFI boot as of current without legacy boot support. Please take a gander through the collection of notes on the WIKI for information on installing, and using Freon Linux! We use a very simple package manager that will have the ability to eventually do 4 tasks: remove software, install software [done], update and search the software database [done]. Our package manager is known as "thaw".

Current major software include:

  • Kernel: linux 5.9.1
  • C Library: GNU libc 2.28
  • SSH: dropbear 2019.78
  • HTTP: chttpd 1.3.1b
  • System Utilities: busybox 1.32.0
  • Shell: busybox sh
